About The Fund
The Timothy C. Averill Debate Education Fund: Supporting Future Generations of Debaters
Founded in 2004, the Tim Averill Debate Education Fund is a non-profit, self-sustaining endowment with the aim of sustaining the excellence of high school debate both in Manchester Essex and on local, regional, and national levels. The interest generated from the fund is used to provide scholarships for members and graduates of the Manchester Essex Debate program, to sponsor international debate opportunities, to help get new regional debate programs off the ground, and more. We've surpassed our initial goal, and the fund is now at $125,000. All contributions will go directly to the endowment.
In December 2006, the Debate Education Fund sent a progress report to all donors, detailing the fund's accomplishments and goals. Since then, the fund has additionally offered a grant of $1000 to help establish a debate program at Chelsea High School and is in the initial stages of working with Lynn Classical High School in starting its own debate team. The Debate Fund had also awarded another scholarship to a MERHS debater wishing to attend summer policy debate institute.
